Ishigaki Island

Ishigaki Island is the commercial hub of the Yaeyama Islands, in Japan’s southwestern Okinawa Prefecture. It's known for beaches and sites for snorkeling, diving, and surfing. Within Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park lies the Shiraho Reef's rare blue coral. In the interior are Mt. Omoto and other peaks. On the northern Hirakubo Peninsula is the Fukido River, a mangrove forest habitat.

Busena Marine Park

Busena Marine Park is a place where you can enjoy the beautiful waters of Okinawa without changing into a bathing suit. From the underwater observatory with 24 windows giving a 360-degree view, you can watch the underwater world four meters below sea level. Another attraction of this marine park is a whale-shaped glass-bottom boat (capacity: 36 people/duration: 20 min). The world of vividly colorful tropical fish and coral reefs are almost within reach from this boat. There are free shuttles operating every 20 minutes between the ticket booth and the observatory.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium introduces you to the mystery of Okinawa’s marine creatures, starting with the naturally lit Coral Sea tank, which exhibits a large selection of coral reef. Hedo Misaki (Cape Hedo)

Cape Hedo is the island's northernmost tip, offering spectacular views of the cliffy coast. The main approach to Hedo Misaki leads along the western coast, where, halfway between Nago and the cape, there is a hiking trail to the Hiji Waterfall and a JAL resort hotel around Okuma Beach.

Kayauchi Banta

On top of an about 80 meter high cliff is Kayauchi Banta, which offers an eagle eye view overlooking the spectacular ocean, a tunnel, a marina as well as highway 58. This is a great spot to take a little break from a long drive for those heading to Cape Hedo and Daiseki-rinzan park.

Gorilla Chop

A great site for those that have not been in the water for a while or would just like to build up their confidence before jumping in on some of the deeper dive sites around Okinawa. Based in northern Okinawa and named after a large rock which supposedly looks like a gorilla doing a karate chop, this shallow site has a maximum depth depending on the tide of about 10 meters! Some lovely hard coral, with plenty of clownfish, sea cucumbers, damsel fish and the occasional cuttlefish or octopus hiding about makes this a great shallow site for those new to diving who want to avoid the crowds sometimes found at other sites. There are some nice atmospheric canyons to swim-thru which can make for some great photos and good preparation if you’re going to be joining us at some of our other sites like Manza or cape Hedo!

Blue Cave
